I have also tried a different approach ignoring the enemy DD and trying to go after the cruisers and battleships with torps but I find the short range of the torps makes it tricky to get a stealth hit.

I may lose half to 2 thirds of my HP but I can get rid of the enemy DD. On the rare occasion when I can confront the enemy DD without focus from other enemy ships the 1v1 confrontation usually goes fairly well. My choice then is to smoke and run in which case my team loses spotting on the enemy DD and I have achieved nothing or stay out of smoke to keep the enemy DD spotted in which case I get blapped by multiple ships. But invariably what happens is I get near the cap, spot the enemy DD/the enemy DD spots me and then I get focused by several ships on the enemy team. I thought my job was to cap if possible and attack the enemy DDs. The smoke is handy to disengage and when I'm in the Jervis the long hydro is great for torp protection or spotting other DDs hiding in smoke.Īll that said I have a hard time being effective in them and I clearly need to change and improve my playstyle with them.

I have found so far their torpedos pack a good punch and the single-fire can be really useful but getting a stealth launch can be tricky.

I have read some people feel they are gunboats, some say they are torpedo boats, some say they are jacks-of-all-trades. The Jervis is the highest tier ship in my port. I'm looking for any advice at all about playing destroyers, specifically the British destroyers and in particular I am trying to get the hang of the tier 5, 6 and 7.
